I found this sliced Shabu Shabu meat at Costco so I thought I would give it a try. Everything I read tells me this should be fairly simple so here we go…
I used only have the package as it was so huge…
Ingredients
- Beef
- Thinly sliced Onion (I like them sliced long and thin for this)
- Sesame seeds (I use roasted sesame seeds though I am not sure it matters)
- Sesame oil
Marinade Ingredients
- Mirin
- Soy sauce (use twice as mush soy sauce as Mirin)
- Ginger – I dice it super small (as small as I can make it with a knife) and let it rest a bit before using
- Brown sugar (I use brown instead of white – just preference for me, reference – I am not a professional)
Instructions
Stir the ingredients of the marinade together. I make sure the amount of liquid sufficiently covers the meat so it can get a good soak. The only ratio you need to be away of is twice as much soy sauce as Mirin.
As with all of my marinades I use a zip lock bag so it can be coated “real nice and good!”. When ready to cook I like the meat to be at or near room temperature so for this one we will marinade outside the fridge for 30 minutes to an hour before cooking.
Heat the oil and lightly stir fry the onions – I like a little punch on the onions so I lightly fry here and not overkill it with heat or time.
After the marinade has set for your time I will add al little sesame oil to the bag and gently coat. Remember, the meat is tender so it falls apart easily…be patient and gentle.
Once onions are almost where you like them add the beef to the onions and spread evenly to cook for about 4-6 minutes.
Once cooked I place on top of a bed of brown rice and go to town!! Add a little of that roasted sesame before enjoying makes it look professional!
